Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur was a relatively unplanned pleasant surprise. When trying to get from Bali to Japan we were going to have to have a 12 hour layover in KL so we decided to just make it 3 days instead and check out what Malaysia had to offer. It turned out to be a very cheap city with great wifi, great views, and great food making for an excellent stopover.

This was the first country that was entirely new for Sinead, so she was filled with a new excitement and energy.

We first stayed in an apartment complex with an insane rooftop pool overlooking the KL skyline. No explanation is really necessary.

Then we switched to a more luxurious apartment (still under $45/night) with a closer view of the bright city lights and towers. The apartment was attached to a shopping mall that was so big it had a roller coaster inside of it.

We wandered the famous street food area, Jalan Alor and tried everything from the famous chicken wings to straight up frog. I don't recommend frog - you could chew it forever and get nowhere. The dim sum was incredible and my favorite. After working at Off the Grid, Sinead is quite the street food foodie and was in absolute heaven. The streets were crowded but not too crowded making it a really enjoyable experience.

Kuala Lumpur is filled with malls and you basically just walk from one air conditioned mall to another. But these malls have incredible food courts underneath them with more delciousness for us to feast on. It was a wildly international and diverse city with people from so many countries in one place.

We were able to catch up on laundry, warm showers, and work during the rest of the time which was a great reset. All this vacationing is tough ;)
